District 39 is pleased to announce that Joe Sloan has been approved as the next Assistant Principal for Romona Elementary School. Sloan emerged as a top choice from an outstanding pool of candidates to join Romona leadership team. He will begin his work at Romona on July 1.

Sloan brings 14 years of experience as an educator to his new role, the last 12 coming at Chicago International Charter Schools (CICS). He arrives at Romona after an eight-year stint as the Dean of Students at CICS Irving Park. In that role, Sloan led the schools’ MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) efforts in all three tiers, including data analysis, intervention planning and progress monitoring and facilitated twice-monthly data meetings to support that work.
Additionally, Sloan oversaw the daily operations of the building, managed school compliance processes and budgets, and served as liaison with the school’s Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) to strengthen the school/family partnership.
Prior to moving to the Irving Park campus, Sloan spent three years at CICS Jackson School in Rockford, where he served in the classroom as a 2nd grade teacher, and later, as an Instructional Coach. In these roles, Sloan positively impacted student learning and growth, guided and supported educators, led data analysis to improve instruction, implemented MTSS behavioral systems, and led professional development for the school’s 65 educators.
Wilmette Public Schools District 39 serves approximately 3,200 students in PreK-8th grade throughout Wilmette and in parts of Glenview.
